Section 02
Commonplace
A working library. Passages, arguments, and ideas worth keeping โ sourced, dated, and organized so they can actually be found again.
What this is
A commonplace book is a reader’s workshop, not a highlight reel.
The practice is centuries old: copy out the passage that changed something, note where it came from, and keep it somewhere you will pass it again. What survives that copying is what mattered.
Everything here is entered by hand, attributed to a real source, and dated. Nothing is quoted from memory, and nothing is trimmed to make a point it did not make in the original.
Entry format
Every passage is set like this โ the words first, at reading size, with everything needed to go back to the original underneath.
